jack welch, the former ceo of general electric as you just mentioned on squawk out on twitter today. he's been obviously critical of the white house for years now, but he says unbelievable jobs numbers. these chicago guys will do anything. can't debate so change numbers. that's the former head of a very large company. >> i'm on tv, and i remember jack sent me a fax when i was first on with mark haynes. i like you. i love jack. i'm trying to reconcile jack with the numbers because i trust jack and think he's terrific. i come back and say listen, they've been wrong -- he's jack. i don't think that they're phony. it doesn't make me feel that jack is off the reservation so much that i think that this particular issue -- i disagree with him. i read the tweet and i was, darn, jack, come on, man. >> let's say good is good. >> does this mark the turning point and we had david come out this morning where he was establishing 1575 and that's quite an upside for 2013 particularly if he's standing by a year-

but i thought it was surprising that jack welch. think before you tweet. >> greta: yes, indeet deed. he is getting a lot of heat for that. >> i think it's a mixed message. the unemployment number is driven by the household survey, which is very volatile. september typically scr is the most volatile month. what i look at is the establishment survey, which is important because that is done with actual business scpoarns they are surveyed on a regular basis in terms of jobs they are creating. and the 114,000 jobs that were created this last month is very anemic, barely enough to keep up with population growth. so you couple the anemic job growth and the reset from gdp and revisited it to 1.2% growth last quarter. the fed is printing mon weqe3 and europe is imploding right now. we are looking at at an environment with a total void of leader help in washington. we are still in rough waters right now. >> greta: you know, i suspect as much as we wait around for the numbers every month and pay attention to them. i have a track here, which --

jack welch suggested obama's team manipulated the data to give the president a boost well our guest is here to dispel conspiracy theories around the drop which is not to say the jobs numbers are manipulated but rather that they're manipulated on an ongoing basis one argue our economist argued in past have times look at this the unemployment rate has been low only because government programs especially social security disability have effectively been buying people off the unemployment rolls and reclassifying them as not in the labor force in other words the government has cooked the books thus far back in two thousand and three austin bowles be writing you may know him he went on to be an obama aide.
